‘Idea Meritocracy’ is a phrase by Ray Dalio; that the most correct ideas should rise to the top. This website focuses primarily on the analysis of both political and economic ideas, often in the context of recent events. An article is published once per week.
Idea Meritocracy has a few principles:
1) To find the evidence first, and from that, create and analyse policy. An open mind is kept.
2) Practical policy is more useful than theoretical ideology.
3) A government must raise the quality of life of its people; one poor person is unfortunate; an entire class of poverty is a structural issue.
4) When in doubt, default to freedom for the people.
To keep to these promises, everything is sourced in each article to allow the reader further reading, and allow readers to separate facts from my interpretation of those facts. Articles are written to be as truthful as possible. Common sources include OECD, the World Bank, the IMF, the Office of National Statistics (U.K.), the United Nations, and economic and political journals. News articles are used to confirm recent events not yet covered by these sources; a variety of both left- and right-wing sources are used to maintain balance.

Economics is the practical application of politics. If we want to make the world a better place for our children, we must do so ourselves.
I write so those politically minded can be informed of economic and political issues not from ideology, nor from biased parties, but based in analysis and research.
I am married to the love of my life, and with the most beautiful daughter in the world.
I hold a 2:I Bachelor’s Degree in Economics; a Masters degree in Public Administration. Politically, I am a centrist. I am a member of no political parties, nor political organisation. This website has no funding from political organisations. The words I write are my own.
Over the course of my life, I have been a socialist, a Libertarian, and a liberal. I believe this gives me sympathies for both sides of the aisle. I am based in Beijing, China, and have been for over 5 years.
